Project Brief

English version

Shek Mun Columbarium and Garden of Remembrance in Sha Tin, about 24,000 m² in area, opened on 26 September 2025 as Hong Kong’s first smoke-free columbarium, with some 40,000 niches on a three-storey building about 8 minutes’ walk from MTR Shek Mun Station.

Tai Fong Company supplied natural stone chippings in white, black, light grey and yellow (1–3mm, 3–5mm and 5–8mm) for the washed granolithic stairs and accessible ramps, the curved planter seats and kerbs separating planters from footpaths, parts of the footpaths, the garden of remembrance and the central plaza. The naturally textured, permeable surfaces offer good slip resistance in wet weather, while the colour combinations create a calm, layered landscape in keeping with the smoke-free, environmentally friendly concept of the facility.
